Nitish Kumar switches alliances: Sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister with BJP support

New Delhi, Jan 28: Nitish Kumar, formerly spearheading Opposition unity against the BJP, was sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister on Sunday, now in alliance with the BJP. The Bihar leader parted ways with his former ally, the RJD, and tendered his resignation as Chief Minister earlier in the day.
Following his meeting with the governor, Kumar stated, "I have resigned from the post of chief minister today. The new Grand Alliance that we formed (in August 2022) is facing challenges. The situation is unfavorable."
Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha from the BJP have been appointed as Kumar's new deputies. The Chief of Janata Dal(U), Nitish Kumar, formally resigned as Bihar's chief minister on Sunday. Sources revealed that shortly after his resignation, Kumar received a surprising phone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated him on his departure from the INDIA bloc and alliance with the NDA.
Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar addressed his party MLAs at the chief minister’s residence, stating that collaboration with the RJD had become increasingly difficult, leading to the dissolution of the alliance.
