250 players taking part in Utkal Open Tennis tourney
Bhubaneswar: Altogether 250 players from across the state are taking part in the three-day-long All Odisha 10th Utkal Open Tennis Tournament 2024 which kicks started at Kalinga Stadium here on Friday, being organized by ACE Tennis Club.
The tournament is going on in eight categories and features a cash award of Rs 3.20 lakhs. The players will participate in the U-14 boys and girls, women’s open and men open singles category. The doubles event will be held in men’s doubles, Veteran 40+, 50+ and 60+ categories.
Each player will participate maximum in two events. The players will get a cash award from the quarterfinals onwards. The champion and runner-up of each category will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, While the semifinalists and quarterfinalists will get Rs 5,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.
“All the last ten years I was present in the opening ceremony. It’s a great positive trend that the participation is increasing every year and many young kids are entering the tennis sports”, said Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Chief Advisor to CMO.
Among others, Dayal Gangwar ADGP Railways and Coastal Security, Dr Hitesh Roy, ACE Tennis Club joint secretary Dr Gourav Das, tournament committee chairman Dr Biswajit Mishra, President Prakash Chandra Bhura, secretary Navratan Bothra, chief patron Subash Chandra Mukharjee, Executive Body member Paresh Kumar Singh, B N Patnaik and Gyana Ranjan Swain were present in the inaugural ceremony.
