BCCI imposes two-year ban on Odisha cricketer Sumit Sharma for age fraud

Cuttack, Jan 5: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a two-year ban on Odisha cricketer Sumit Sharma due to alleged age fraud.
Sumit, who was part of the Odisha Ranji Team, faces this setback as Team Odisha commences their Ranji campaign against Baroda at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara today.
The BCCI discovered inconsistencies in Sumit's age through a comparison of documents he had previously provided and those submitted for the Ranji team. As a result, Tarini Sa has been named as Sumit's replacement in the team.
Sanjay Behera, the Secretary of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), stated, "Sumit Sharma, a player of Odisha Senior Men Team, has been disqualified by BCCI to play in BCCI Domestic Tournaments for 2 years as he has produced multiple age certificates. The certificates from his Junior Level play in the year 2015-16 don't match the ones he submitted for the current season."
