PM Modi Appeals for Judicious Use of Petrol and Diesel Amid Global Energy Uncertainty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to use petrol, diesel and cooking gas carefully in view of the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia that could impact global fuel supplies and energy prices. Addressing concerns over the international situation, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of conserving fuel and avoiding unnecessary consumption to help the country manage possible economic challenges arising from disruptions in crude oil supply chains.

Modi said the current global scenario demands responsible energy usage from every citizen. He appealed to people to reduce avoidable travel, prefer public transport whenever possible and adopt fuel-saving habits in daily life. According to the Prime Minister, collective efforts by citizens can play a major role in reducing pressure on fuel demand and strengthening the country’s preparedness during uncertain times.

The Prime Minister highlighted that India remains heavily dependent on imported crude oil, making the country vulnerable to fluctuations in international markets. He noted that prolonged instability in West Asia could lead to increased transportation costs, higher fuel prices and disruptions in the supply of essential commodities. As a result, the government is encouraging people to become more conscious about how they use petroleum products.

Modi suggested several practical measures that can help conserve fuel. He encouraged commuters in urban areas to make greater use of metro rail services, buses and other public transportation systems instead of relying on private vehicles. He also advised citizens to consider carpooling for office travel and to avoid unnecessary long-distance journeys. In addition, the Prime Minister recommended work-from-home arrangements wherever feasible to cut down fuel consumption linked to daily commuting.

The Prime Minister further appealed to people to postpone non-essential foreign trips in the current global environment. He said virtual meetings and online communication platforms can often replace unnecessary travel and help save both fuel and financial resources. Modi added that small changes in individual behaviour can collectively create a significant impact on national energy conservation efforts.

Reassuring the public, the Prime Minister stated that the government is taking all necessary steps to maintain uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel and LPG across the country. He informed that India has already developed substantial strategic petroleum reserves to deal with emergencies and is continuously expanding its energy storage infrastructure. The government, he said, is closely monitoring the international situation and preparing contingency plans to minimise any adverse impact on the Indian economy.

Modi also highlighted the government’s long-term initiatives aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels. He pointed to the rapid expansion of metro rail networks, large-scale railway electrification projects, promotion of electric vehicles and increased ethanol blending in petrol as important steps towards achieving greater energy security. These measures, he said, are helping India gradually reduce its reliance on imported fuel.

Officials from the petroleum sector have also advised citizens to avoid wastage of cooking gas and petroleum products. Authorities maintain that there is no immediate shortage of fuel supplies, but conservation remains important considering the uncertainty in global energy markets.

Experts believe the Prime Minister’s appeal reflects the growing importance of energy conservation and self-reliance in India’s economic planning. With international tensions affecting oil-producing regions, responsible fuel usage is being seen as a necessary step to protect both the economy and the environment.
