Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In as West Bengal Chief Minister Amid Grand Celebrations
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari officially took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal during a large swearing-in ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday. The event marked a major turning point in the state’s political landscape, as the Bharatiya Janata Party formed its first government in West Bengal after years of dominance by regional political forces.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders from the NDA, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Senior BJP leaders, party workers, and supporters from different districts of the state attended the event in huge numbers, creating a festive atmosphere across the venue.
Thousands of supporters carrying BJP flags and banners gathered early in the day to witness the historic moment. Loud cheers erupted as Suvendu Adhikari took the oath of office and secrecy. The Brigade Parade Ground was decorated with saffron-colored themes, party symbols, and welcome posters, reflecting the significance of the occasion for the BJP and its supporters.
Soon after taking oath, Adhikari addressed the gathering and thanked the people of West Bengal for giving the BJP a strong mandate. He said his government would focus on development, employment generation, better law and order, and transparent governance. The new Chief Minister also assured citizens that his administration would work for the welfare of all communities without discrimination.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Adhikari and termed the occasion the beginning of a “new era” in West Bengal politics. During the ceremony, Modi interacted with several party workers and senior supporters. His gestures towards veteran BJP members also attracted public attention and were widely discussed among political circles.
Suvendu Adhikari’s political journey has remained one of the most talked-about stories in Bengal politics in recent years. Once considered a key leader of the Trinamool Congress, he later joined the BJP and emerged as one of its strongest leaders in the state. His political stature increased significantly after he defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a high-profile electoral battle, strengthening his image as a powerful mass leader.
Security arrangements around the venue were extremely tight due to the presence of senior political leaders and the massive crowd. Police personnel and security agencies monitored the area throughout the event to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremony.
Political observers believe the new BJP government in West Bengal will face several major challenges in the coming months. Issues such as industrial development, unemployment, border security, infrastructure growth, and maintaining law and order are expected to remain key priorities for the new administration. At the same time, BJP supporters see Adhikari’s swearing-in ceremony as the beginning of a fresh political chapter in the state.
The grand ceremony not only celebrated a change in leadership but also highlighted a significant shift in West Bengal’s political history, making it one of the most closely watched political developments in the country.
