Mastermind arrested 10 months after murder of Sahadev Nayak in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: In a major breakthrough, Mancheswar police have arrested Sulei Nayak, the prime accused and alleged mastermind behind the gruesome murder of police mitra and sanitation supervisor Sahadev Nayak.
The arrest comes 10 months after the shocking crime that had triggered widespread outrage in Bhubaneswar. Sulei, who had been absconding since the January incident, was wanted under an arrest warrant and will be produced in court soon.
Sahadev, who also served as the president of the BMC Safai Karmachari Association, was brutally attacked on January 8 near the Rasulgarh flyover. According to reports, he was returning home after dropping his daughter at school in VSS Nagar when bike-borne assailants, allegedly led by Sulei Nayak, intercepted him. The attackers, who had been trailing his motorcycle, struck him with a sword on the railway overbridge near the busy Rasulgarh square.
The miscreants fled, leaving Sahadev critically injured in a pool of blood. Police reached the spot immediately after receiving information and rushed him to Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Six accused had already been arrested earlier, but Sulei’s arrest is seen as a crucial step toward ensuring justice for Sahadev’s grieving family.
