Congress brings no-confidence motion against BJP government in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: The political atmosphere in Odisha heated up on Thursday after the Congress party formally brought a no-confidence motion against the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Party MLAs submitted a memorandum in support of the motion to the Speaker through the Assembly Secretary.
According to Congress leaders, the motion has the backing of at least 15 MLAs. In addition, CPI(M) legislator Laxman Munda has also pledged his support, strengthening the Opposition’s stance. However, the position of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which holds a decisive number of seats in the Assembly, remains unclear, making their role crucial in determining the fate of the motion.
The Congress has accused the BJP government of failing on multiple fronts. Leaders alleged that the administration has been ineffective in ensuring women’s safety, maintaining law and order, and addressing the longstanding problems faced by farmers, Dalits, tribals, and OBC communities. They have also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Majhi, citing what they describe as the government’s inability to fulfill its promises and provide good governance.
The Speaker is expected to take a call on when the no-confidence motion will be taken up for discussion.
