Woman succumbs to burn injuries after self-immolation attempt in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: In a tragic incident, a woman who attempted self-immolation following a family dispute at Kankarailo village under Salipur block has succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
The deceased has been identified as Tilottama Rout, a resident of the village. According to reports, Tilottama allegedly poured kerosene on herself and set her body ablaze on Tuesday after a heated dispute within her family. She sustained nearly 60 percent burn injuries in the incident.
Initially, she was rushed to the Salipur Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors provided preliminary treatment. However, due to the severity of her condition, she was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced care. Despite the efforts of doctors, Tilottama succumbed to her critical injuries late Tuesday night.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with locals expressing shock over the extreme step taken by the woman. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the self-immolation attempt.
Authorities have urged families to seek counseling and support in cases of disputes to prevent such unfortunate tragedies.
