Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna Takes Oath

New Delhi: Justice Sanjeev Khanna took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to him in a ceremony held at President Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present during the oath recitation program.
Justice Khanna was appointed as the next Chief Justice on October 24 on the recommendation of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. His tenure as Chief Justice will end on May 13, 2025.
Justice Khanna has been serving as a judge of the Supreme Court since January 2019. During his tenure, he has delivered important judicial decisions as a member of various benches of the Supreme Court. These include important issues like validity of EVMs, abolition of electoral bond scheme, removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, bail to Arvind Kejriwal. Justice Khanna is the son of former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Devaraj Khanna and nephew of former Supreme Court Justice HR Khanna.
