Former BJD Minister Debasis Nayak joins Congress after BJP snub
Bhubaneswar, May 4: Debasis Nayak, a former minister who recently switched allegiance from BJD to BJP, has now made another move by joining forces with Congress. Nayak's decision came after his aspirations for a BJP ticket in the upcoming elections were dashed.
In a formal ceremony in Bhubaneswar, Nayak joined the Indian National Congress in the presence of key figures including Odisha Pradesh Congress in-charge Ajoy Kumar and former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik.
The turn of events followed Nayak's announcement on social media that he intends to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections independently from the Bari constituency in Jajpur district, after the BJP nominated Umesh Jena for the same constituency in their fifth list of MLA candidates.
Expressing discontent over not securing the party's nomination from Bari, Nayak opted to sever ties with the saffron party and pursue his electoral ambitions independently.
