Former BJD MLA Sipra Mallick joins Congress ahead of Odisha elections

Bhubaneswar, April 18: Former BJD MLA Sipra Mallick from Kendrapada has officially joined the Congress party in preparation for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
In the presence of senior Congress leaders, including former OPCC president Prasad Harichandan, Mallick severed ties with the ruling BJD to align herself with the grand old party.
Having previously served as a BJD MLA after winning the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections, Mallick's decision marks a significant shift in her political affiliation. She comes from a political lineage, with her father, Prahlad Mallick, being a seasoned Congress leader who held ministerial positions in the state.
Expressing her sentiments upon joining Congress, Mallick emphasized the importance of embarking on a new journey with the national party.
Regarding her potential candidacy in the upcoming elections, Mallick disclosed that she has yet to discuss the matter with party leaders. However, she expressed her desire to contest from the Kendrapada Assembly seat and affirmed her readiness to participate if the party nominates her.
