Former Bargarh MP Prabhas Kumar Singh resigns from BJD
Bhubaneswar, April 8: Prabhas Kumar Singh, the former Member of Parliament from Bargarh, has tendered his resignation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), reportedly expressing disappointment over not being nominated for the upcoming elections in Odisha.
Singh submitted his resignation letter to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, stating, "During my tenure with the BJD, I have endeavored to uphold the principles of discipline and dedication, giving my utmost in every role. However, after careful deliberation considering various complexities and challenges, I believe it is in the best interest of all parties involved that I step down from my position."
Singh secured victory in the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat during the 2014 elections, defeating BJP's Subash Chouhan by a margin of 11,178 votes. In the 2019 elections, the BJD nominated senior leader Prasanna Acharya for the seat, who lost to BJP's Suresh Pujari by 63,939 votes. While Singh harbored hopes of replicating his 2014 success, the party opted for a new entrant and political novice, Parineeta Mishra.
