Former BJP leader Bhrugu Baxipatra joins BJD after resignation

Bhubaneswar, April 3: Former BJP leader Bhrugu Baxipatra has officially joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today, just hours after stepping down from the saffron party.
Baxipatra's induction into the regional party took place at Sankha Bhawan in the presence of BJD officials. Notably, he contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Berhampur constituency on a BJP ticket, but was defeated by BJD's Chandra Sekhar Sahu by a margin of 94,844 votes. Despite the loss, Baxipatra managed to secure 3,48,999 votes, accounting for 35.25% of the total votes cast in the parliamentary constituency.
In his resignation letter addressed to BJP State President Manmohan Samal, Baxipatra cited a perceived lack of need for his contribution within the party as the reason for his departure.
"I have come to realize that the party no longer requires my services or contributions. Consequently, I have made the decision to move forward," he wrote in his letter.
