Sura Routray steps down from Congress committees after son joins BJD

Bhubaneswar, March 27: Senior Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray, widely known as Sura Routray, has tendered his resignation from all committees of the party. This decision follows the recent joining of his son, Manmath Routray, into the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Routray conveyed his resignation via a letter addressed to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President, Sarat Patnaik.
Expressing his disappointment over his son's decision to join the BJD against his advice, Jatani MLA Routray stated, "Defying my advice, my son Manmath Routray joined the BJD. It has hurt me. Therefore, I am willing to tender resignation from all committees of the party." However, he made it clear that despite the resignation from committee roles, he remains steadfast in his commitment to the Congress party. Routray affirmed, "I will be a part of the Congress till my last breath. I am ready to do any task given to me by the party. I will never vote in favour of any other party."
Suresh Kumar Routray holds significant stature within the Odisha unit of Congress, having served as a six-time MLA from Jatani. His decision to step down from party committees assumes importance particularly in light of the upcoming elections in Odisha, given his strong organizational presence, especially in the Jatani Assembly Constituency and Bhubaneswar, where he commands a considerable following.
Meanwhile, addressing his supporters at an event, Routray appealed to them to extend their support to his son in the forthcoming elections.
