Jail warder found dead at Digapahandi Sub-Jail quarters
Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: A jail warder was found dead at his residential quarters attached to Digapahandi sub-jail in Ganjam district on Friday morning, with police suspecting suicide. The deceased has been identified as Sibananda Swain.
According to reports, Swain had joined the Digapahandi sub-jail only around 15 days ago following his transfer from Puri. He was reportedly at his residential quarters when colleagues tried to contact him at around 10 am. However, he did not respond to repeated calls.
Concerned over his absence and lack of response, other staff members reportedly broke open the door of his quarters, where they found him hanging inside.
Following the incident, Patapur police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
The reason behind the suspected suicide remains unclear. Police are examining various aspects of the incident and are likely to question colleagues and other persons who may have information about Swain’s recent activities.
Sanakhemundi Tahsildar also visited the spot and conducted preliminary inquiries. Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons, Berhampur, reached the jail and took stock of the situation. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the warder’s death.
