Vigilance unearths six buildings, plots worth Rs. 2.4 crore in raid on engineer

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: Vigilance raids on the properties of Prasanna Kumar Swain, an Assistant Engineer (Civil) with the Bhanjanagar Irrigation Division in Ganjam district, have unearthed assets valued at around Rs. 2.4 crore. The assets include six multi-storeyed buildings and five high-value plots.
The raids, conducted by the Vigilance Technical Wing, uncovered the following:
– A four-storeyed palatial building in Berhampur worth Rs. 2.4 crore
– Five additional multi-storeyed buildings in Bhanjanagar and Berhampur
– Five valuable plots in Berhampur and Bhanjanagar
– Bank deposits and investments amounting to Rs. 11.5 lakh
– Two two-wheelers
These assets are registered in the name of Swain and his family members. The valuation and assessment of the properties are ongoing, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses.
The raid is part of an inquiry into allegations of disproportionate assets against Swain, who began his career as a contractual Junior Engineer on October 15, 2003, in the Lower Indra Canal division in Khariar. After seven years there, Swain was transferred to his home district of Ganjam in 2010, joining the Irrigation Division in Bhanjanagar. He was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2013 and has since served in that role for over a decade.
