Scuffle in Bhubaneswar as police clash with Congress student wing over election delay

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: A protest by the student wing of the Congress turned violent in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday when demonstrators clashed with the police. The agitation was launched to demand immediate students' union elections.
As the protesters attempted to march towards the Odisha Assembly, police intervened, leading to a scuffle between the two sides. Several Congress activists were taken into preventive custody, according to sources.
The protestors alleged that the Odisha government had announced the postponement of students’ union elections to next year, citing a lack of time to conduct them this year.
“This is utterly unacceptable and we strongly condemn it. By postponing the elections, the government is suppressing the democratic rights of students, denying them rightful representation, and undermining their ability to participate in the decision-making process that directly impacts their lives and education,” said one of the agitators.
