Leech found in mid-day meal at Bhadrak school sparks outrage
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: In a shocking incident, a student at Radhakantapur Dibakar Mishra Government Primary School in Bhadrak district’s Basudevpur block reportedly discovered a leech in his meal served under the mid-day meal programme.
The disturbing discovery has raised serious concerns about food safety and quality control in the school’s mid-day meal programme, sparking outrage among parents and authorities alike.
According to reports, the student was eating when a large leech emerged from her plate. The student immediately informed the in-charge headmaster, Parshuram Sahu, who then notified the school management committee president and the local councilor. Sahu also alerted the block education officer about the incident.
The Damodar Jew organization, responsible for providing mid-day meals to the school, has faced complaints of serving stale and substandard food and preparing meals in unhygienic conditions. Despite repeated complaints from parents, no action had been taken.
The school has a total of 115 students from Class I to Class VIII.
