EOW apprehends absconding woman involved in massive cheating case

Bhubaneswar, March 27: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has apprehended a woman who had been evading authorities for an extended period, accused of defrauding over 53 individuals of approximately Rs two crore. The woman, identified as Rammi Bhuyan, also known as Rammi Pusty (39), was captured in the Kalyan area of East Mumbai and subsequently transported to Odisha under transit remand. Rammi Bhuyan, along with her husband Bimalananda Bhuyan, hails from Durg in Chhattisgarh.
According to the EOW, the case was initiated based on a complaint filed by Bikash Podar of Sambalpur against Bimalananda Bhuyan and Rammi Bhuyan, accusing them of duping 53 investors of Rs 1.2 crore by promising LED monitors for advertisement purposes through their LLP Company, "Quick Click AD Media."
The accused couple allegedly lured the public into investing with promises of substantial profits from advertisements. They enticed investors to purchase LED monitors, purportedly for prominent advertisement placements by various agencies. However, despite collecting significant deposits from the public, they absconded without fulfilling their promises or procuring any LED monitors, thereby misappropriating the funds.
The activities of the company primarily operated in districts such as Khurda, Koraput, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Ganjam in Odisha, with extensions into Chhattisgarh.
Through their LLP, Bimalananda Bhuyan and Rammi Bhuyan are accused of defrauding more than a hundred investors of around Rs. 2 crore. The accused couple had remained on the run for years in an attempt to evade arrest by law enforcement authorities.
