Bhubaneswar, March 14: Tragedy struck Nahakapada village under Dasapalla police jurisdiction in Nayagarh district on Wednesday night, as a man reportedly took the life of his mother and subsequently set her body on fire following a family dispute.

The victim, identified as Mana Behera, fell prey to the alleged actions of her son, Balia Behera. Law enforcement swiftly apprehended Balia on suspicion of his involvement in the heinous act and commenced interrogation procedures.

Sources suggest that Mana met a tragic demise after purportedly being assaulted by Balia during a minor altercation. Subsequently, to conceal his actions, Balia allegedly resorted to setting his mother's body ablaze.

During the interrogation, Balia denied any involvement in the crime, instead attributing his mother's demise to a sudden cardiac arrest.

As of now, no formal police complaint has been registered regarding the incident. The investigation into this distressing event remains ongoing.
