ED questions MLA's son over financial allegations

Bhubaneswar, March 5: Prayaskanti Samal, son of Prafulla Samal, a former Minister and the MLA for Bhandaripokhari appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. This follows a directive from the central probing agency on February 17, requiring both father and son to present all pertinent documents concerning Barapada Engineering College.
Complying with the ED's summons, Prayaskanti attended the interrogation session. The focus of the ED's inquiry revolves around alleged financial irregularities linked to Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak.
Earlier, Prafulla Samal underwent questioning by the ED on February 28, enduring an eight-hour session at the agency's Bhubaneswar office.
Accusations suggest that Samal and his son were involved in embezzling significant sums amassed from student fees, purportedly utilized to purchase properties in Bhubaneswar and elsewhere. Despite previous complaints, no actions were taken against them, leading to the case being referred to the ED.
On February 15, the ED conducted raids on ten locations, six in Bhadrak and four in Bhubaneswar, associated with Prafulla Samal, who represents the Bhandaripokhari constituency. Among the seized items were a vehicle and Rs 10 lakh from Prayaskanti's residence in Palaspalli, Bhubaneswar.
Previously, the ED had also conducted searches at the residence of the former principal of Barapada Engineering College, which is under Samal's management.
