Police bust dacoity ring, apprehend six suspects in Rourkela

Rourkela, Jan 17: In a significant crackdown, the Rourkela police successfully dismantled a dacoity gang operating in the Udit Nagar locality of Sundargarh district last night. Six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case, as confirmed by ASP (under training) Sonali Singh Parmar today.

The arrested members of the dacoity gang include Rahul Gope (19), son of Uday Gope from Khatal slum in Malgodown, Rohit Nayak (24), son of Babula Nayak from Ambedkar Nagar, Sonu Sahu (37), son of Dayal Sahu from Shitalpada—all under Udit Nagar police limits. Additionally, Raja Yadav (24), son of Bachulal Yadav, and Suraj Mahato (26), son of late Harindar Mahato, both from Gopabandhupali of Ward No-3, and Md. Irshad (26), son of Md. Mehnaj from Mahatab Road—all under Plantsite police limits in Rourkela city.

Upon initial investigation, the six individuals confessed to planning a dacoity targeting jewelry shops in the Udit Nagar locality. The accused have a history of involvement in various criminal activities, including dacoities and thefts. This successful detection is part of a special drive initiated by the police.

As part of the operation, the police seized three pistols, a toy pistol, a mobile phone, six live bullets, and a Bhujali, which includes three iron rods and hexa blades, as reported by a senior officer from Udit Nagar Police Station to the media.
