IMD issues three-day thunderstorm warning for Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of Odisha over the next three days, urging people to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
According to the IMD forecast, valid until 8:30 am on October 8, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
The weather activity is expected to spread to more districts during the subsequent 24 hours. From 8:30 am on October 8 to 8:30 am on October 9, thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40–50 kmph are likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Nuapada and Balangir.
Meanwhile, 30–40 kmph gusty winds accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.
On October 9–10, thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas.
