Woman allegedly raped for three days by self-styled witch doctor in Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped for three days by a self-styled witch doctor in Mayurbhanj district after she approached him seeking help to resolve marital and family problems, police said.

The incident reportedly took place at Madhupur village under Bisoi police station limits. Following the woman’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused, identified as Lakshman Lohar.

According to the complaint, the woman, originally from the Joda area of Keonjhar district, had been staying with friends at Gorumahisani after losing her parents. She married a man from the Bisoi area in September this year. However, she alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental harassment by her in-laws soon after the marriage, leading to strained relations with her husband.

The woman also reportedly suffered from persistent fever. Seeking to improve her health and restore her relationship with her husband, she approached Lohar, who allegedly claimed that tantric rituals and worship could resolve her problems.

She visited his house near Pukriput Dam Chhak on Thursday, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her repeatedly over three days.

After falling ill, she called a 108 ambulance on Monday and was admitted to Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital. She informed medical personnel about the alleged assault.

Bisoi police recorded her statement and facilitated her medical examination. A case has been registered under Case No. 218/26. Lohar is being interrogated and is expected to be produced before a court. Further investigation is underway.
