Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: Renowned Odia singer Debesh Pati has been taken into custody in the city following accusations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a woman under the pretext of marriage. 

On Thursday, he was presented in court after his bail request was denied in a local court. The arrest transpired on Wednesday night after the victim filed a formal complaint at the Nayapalli police station.

Debesh, hailing from Jajpur district, had been residing in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar. The victim, a Bhadrak district resident, was pursuing her MBA studies at a city-based private college.

The connection between Debesh and the girl originated through a mutual friend, initially blossoming into a friendship. Subsequently, their relationship evolved into a romantic one, during which Debesh allegedly engaged in a physical relationship with her under the guise of marriage, leading to her pregnancy. Additionally, he purportedly received Rs 5 lakh from the victim on multiple occasions.

Later, the complainant discovered that Debesh was involved in a romantic relationship with a fellow singer from the Odia film industry. In an attempt to terminate her pregnancy, Debesh allegedly administered medication and threatened to release their intimate videos, according to the complainant's statement.
