Elderly woman found dead in Ganjam; family alleges murder for gold jewellery
Bhubaneswar, July 15: An elderly woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside her residence at Ghata Paika Sahi in Kabisuryanagar town of Odisha's Ganjam district on Wednesday. The incident has sparked concern in the locality, with family members alleging that she was murdered by unidentified miscreants who fled after looting her gold jewellery.
The deceased has been identified as Pratima Jena. According to family members, unknown persons allegedly entered the house, killed the elderly woman and escaped with her gold ornaments. However, the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime are yet to be established by investigators.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Kabisuryanagar Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body from inside the house. The area was cordoned off, and a detailed investigation was launched to ascertain whether the death was the result of a robbery or linked to any other motive.
A scientific team was also called to the scene to collect forensic evidence and examine the premises for clues that could help identify those involved in the incident.
Police have sent the body for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are also questioning local residents and family members while examining available evidence as part of the probe.
Police said all possible angles are being investigated, and further action will be taken based on the postmortem findings and forensic evidence collected from the crime scene.
