Minor rape allegation shocks Dhamara in Bhadrak, victim attempts suicide after trauma
Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Amid widespread outrage over the recent Chandbali minor rape and murder case in Bhadrak district, another disturbing allegation involving a minor girl has surfaced in the Dhamara area, triggering fresh concern over women’s safety. The traumatised victim allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison following the incident.
According to sources, the incident took place on December 17 when the minor girl was alone at home preparing food in the evening. The accused reportedly entered the kitchen, gagged her with her own scarf, and sexually assaulted her. Shocked and fearful, the victim initially remained silent due to social stigma and alleged threats from the accused, who warned her against disclosing the incident, saying her sisters would face similar consequences.
Unable to cope with the trauma, the girl later wrote a detailed handwritten note describing the assault before consuming poison on December 20 in an apparent suicide attempt. She was first rushed to Dhamara Community Health Centre and later shifted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital as her condition deteriorated. Subsequently, she was admitted to a private nursing home in Cuttack, where she remains in serious condition.
The victim’s widowed mother lodged a complaint at Dhamara police station along with the handwritten letter. Police arrested the accused, identified as Gyanaranjan Pati of Narsinghpur village, and have launched a detailed investigation.
