Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: In a gruesome incident that has shocked residents of Balasore district, a man allegedly killed his wife by beheading her while she was asleep at their home in Takuapala village under Raiabania police limits late Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Chandra Mohan Patra, reportedly surrendered before the Raiabania police soon after committing the crime. The deceased woman has been identified as Jayanti Patra. Although the exact motive remains unclear, preliminary investigations suggest that the murder may have been the outcome of a heated domestic dispute.

Following the incident, police personnel from Raiabania station, along with Jaleswar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), rushed to the spot and launched a detailed investigation. The body has been seized for post-mortem, and forensic teams are likely to assist in the probe.

Meanwhile, the accused is being interrogated to ascertain the sequence of events and the possible reasons that led to such an extreme act. The shocking murder has triggered fear and outrage in the local community, with villagers demanding strict punishment for the accused.
