Main accused in puri gang-rape case arrested from Andhra Pradesh
Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: Police have arrested the prime accused in the shocking gang-rape case reported near the famous Baliharachandi temple in Puri district. The accused, identified as Manoj Behera, was apprehended from Andhra Pradesh in a joint operation carried out by Odisha police.
According to reports, the incident took place on Saturday when a young woman, who had gone to visit the Baliharachandi temple, was abducted and sexually assaulted by four men. Following the crime, three of the accused were arrested earlier and were being interrogated in custody, while the fourth accused had fled the state. After days of intensive tracking, police managed to nab him and bring him back for further investigation.
Officials confirmed that the medical examination of all four accused will be conducted today. The victim has already undergone medical tests, and her statement has been recorded to strengthen the case. The incident has sparked outrage across Puri, with locals demanding strict punishment for the culprits. Police have assured that a strong chargesheet will be filed to ensure speedy justice for the survivor.
