Two tug vessels arrested at Paradip Port over ₹428 crore maritime dispute

Bhubaneswar, March 21: Two tug vessels, Ocean Jade and Ocean Morganite, were arrested at Paradip Port following a legal dispute concerning a maritime contract and commercial disagreements. The action was taken as per the directive of the High Court, with the arrest executed in the presence of Kujanga Sub-Judge Chinmayee Panda.

The case involves a ₹428 crore claim filed by Alphard Maritime Limited over the sale and purchase of seven tug vessels. As per reports, the company approached the court for the immediate arrest of the two vessels while they were passing near Paradip Port. The court granted the request, and the vessels were detained pending further legal proceedings.

Following the arrest, the Kujanga Sub-Judge ordered both vessels to be moved to the port’s anchorage for security reasons. The vessels will remain under detention until the next hearing, which is scheduled for April 30.

The incident has drawn attention in maritime and legal circles, highlighting the complexities of commercial disputes in the shipping industry.
