Jeypore Airport Director faces harassment allegations; denies charges

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: The Director of Jeypore Airport in Odisha’s Koraput district, Commander Abakash Parida, has come under severe criticism following allegations of physical harassment by a female worker. The woman, who was employed as a sweeper at the airport, lodged a complaint with Jeypore Mahila Police, accusing Parida of inappropriate behavior and workplace harassment.
According to the complainant, she was hired ten months ago through the Road and Housing Department. She had taken up the job to support her family, as her father is disabled. In her complaint, she alleged that Parida not only subjected her to mental and physical harassment but also forced her to work at his residence. She further claimed that she was verbally abused with casteist slurs and racial insults.
The woman also alleged that Parida made unwanted advances and, upon her refusal, terminated her employment. Unable to endure the harassment, she sought the help of national women’s rights activists, who assisted her in filing the complaint.
However, Commander Parida has dismissed the allegations as baseless, calling them a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
