Odisha shivers as temperatures plunge; G Udayagiri coldest at 5.2°C
Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: Odisha continues to experience a severe cold wave, with temperatures in at least eight locations dropping below 10°C on Thursday. G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest temperature at 5.2°C, followed by Rourkela (6.4°C), Phulbani (6.8°C), Semiliguda in Koraput (7.1°C), Daringbadi (8°C), Sundargarh (8.2°C), Keonjhar (8.8°C), Bhawanipatna (9.1°C), and Sonepur (9.8°C).
In urban centers, Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 15.1°C, while Cuttack saw 13.5°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast that the cold spell will persist until Saturday, with nighttime temperatures expected to rise by 2°C-3°C from Sunday. Another cold wave is predicted from January 16, likely extending until mid-February.
Dense fog warnings have been issued for Sundargarh, Kandhamal, and Koraput districts, with shallow to moderate fog expected in Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Angul, and Dhenkanal. Visibility in Koraput dropped below 50 meters due to dense fog in the past 24 hours.
