Three dead, 20 hospitalized in diarrhoea outbreak in Mayurbhanj village
Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: Three people have reportedly died, and 20 others were hospitalized following a diarrhoea outbreak in Albandha village under Gudialbandha panchayat in Mayurbhanj district.
The victims have been identified as Rajkishore Naik (62) from Albandha village, Nidrabati Naik (50) from Karanjia village, and a minor from Chauliashola village.
The outbreak is suspected to have occurred after villagers consumed food at a community feast held during the 10th-day ritual of a deceased person. Soon after eating, they began experiencing severe diarrhoea and vomiting, leading to hospitalization. Tragically, three individuals did not survive.
Initially, 11 patients were admitted to a local hospital, but 10 more were transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
The Health Department has sent two teams to investigate the incident and take preventive measures. District Public Health Officer Ghasiram Murmu stated, “I have not received any reports of deaths due to diarrhoea. So far, 21 villagers have been admitted to the hospital, and teams have been dispatched to assess the situation and take necessary steps.”
