BJD criticizes BJP govt, demands action in assault case involving Army officer
Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced on Friday that it will gherao Raj Bhawan tomorrow, protesting the state government’s inaction against the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) and four other officers of Bharatpur police station. The police officers allegedly assaulted and misbehaved with Major Gurvansh Singh of the Sikh Regiment and his fiancée.
During a press conference at Sankha Bhawan, BJD members sharply criticized the BJP-led state government for failing to ensure women's safety. The party has decided to stage a protest in front of Raj Bhawan and submit a memorandum addressed to the President of India.
The BJD has been vocal about the BJP government's handling of recent assault cases, including an attack on Assistant Section Officer (ASO) Baikuntha Pradhan, allegedly involving the Odisha Governor’s son, Lalit Kumar. The party also condemned the assault on Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancée, questioning the government’s commitment to public safety.
The BJD further alleged that CCTV cameras, installed at Bharatpur police station during their tenure, are now claimed by police to have never existed, accusing the authorities of attempting to cover up the incident.
