Mystery surrounds forester’s death in Bhawanipatna

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Police on Thursday handed over the body of Sanjay Nayak, a 35-year-old forester, to his family after an autopsy. Nayak was found hanging from the ceiling of his official quarters in Bhawanipatna, Odisha’s Kalahandi district, on Wednesday. Bhawanipatna Town police station IIC Josobantna Hial confirmed the release of the body.
Nayak, who was part of the Forest Research Wing at Jaring and recently transferred from Rayagada to Bolangir, was discovered with his feet touching the ground, raising suspicions of foul play. The police also recovered a note from the scene, which has led Nayak’s family to seek a thorough investigation.
In response, Nayak's brother, Rabinarayan Rayagada, has filed a complaint against Rayagada Forest Officer Devendra Behera, accusing him of mental harassment and demanding bribes from various departmental projects. The allegations are reportedly detailed in the suicide note found with Nayak.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of Nayak’s death and to address the accusations raised by his family.
