Balasore flood crisis: 2,000 evacuated, CM Majhi vows speedy relief
Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has stated that the flood situation in Odisha’s Balasore district remains severe. Following an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas on Wednesday, Majhi assured that the state government is taking all necessary steps to expedite rescue and relief efforts.
The flash floods were triggered by the Subarnarekha river exceeding its danger mark, submerging several parts of the district. Heavy rainfall over the past 3-4 days, caused by a deep depression, has exacerbated the crisis.
Majhi reported that six blocks and 8,000 hectares of land have been submerged, while 35 gram panchayats across three blocks are severely affected. The Balasore administration has evacuated 2,000 residents from low-lying areas, providing them with shelter and cooked food.
To aid the rescue operations, eight Fire Services teams, three ODRAF teams, and one NDRF team have been deployed to the most isolated villages.
