Assistant Engineer arrested in Ganjam for possessing disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: In a major crackdown on corruption, Vigilance officers arrested Prasanna Kumar Swain, an Assistant Engineer (Civil) with the Irrigation Division in Bhanjanagar, Ganjam, on Thursday for possessing disproportionate assets.
The arrest followed extensive searches of Swain’s properties, which uncovered six multi-storied buildings, including two luxurious four-storey buildings valued at approximately Rs 2.4 crore and Rs 2.3 crore. Additionally, Swain owned five high-value homestead plots, had bank deposits totaling over Rs 23.94 lakhs, and possessed around 200 grams of gold.
Swain was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the sources of his wealth, leading to his arrest by the Vigilance team. A case has been registered against him by the Berhampur Vigilance unit. Swain will be produced in court today as the investigation continues. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption and ensure accountability within government institutions.
