Thunderstorm lowers temperatures, causes water-logging in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 18: A sudden downpour in many parts of the state capital on Tuesday brought respite from the gruelling heatwave conditions.

Heavy showers, which lasted for over an hour in Bhubaneswar, provided much-needed relief to residents suffering from severe heat, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius for several weeks.

The downpour, however, resulted in water-logging in several areas of the capital, causing traffic jams and making it difficult for people to drive through knee-deep water in many places.

The sudden thunderstorm also disrupted vehicular traffic between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and significantly cooled the temperatures. Additionally, lightning caused power outages in several areas. The rain helped bring down the mercury in Bhubaneswar.

The IMD has forecasted more rainfall in the state, with predictions indicating enhanced rainfall activity in several Odisha districts over the next four to five days.
