Couple killed by ambulance in front of children on Odisha bridge

Boudh, April 20: A tragic incident unfolded on a bridge over the Mahanadi River in Odisha's Boudh district on Saturday, resulting in the death of a man and his wife in front of their minor daughters after being struck by an ambulance. The deceased were identified as Mitu Behera and his wife Manorama, residents of the Sadeipur area in the district, according to preliminary reports.
The mishap occurred as the couple, accompanied by their two daughters, was traveling on a bike from Athamallik to Boudh. They halted on the bridge so the girls could observe the Mahanadi water. Mitu and Manorama waited on the bike while their daughters ventured to the bridge's edge.
Tragically, an ambulance traveling from the Sambalpur direction collided with them from behind. Mitu succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Manorama was rushed to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition. Unfortunately, she also passed away due to her injuries.
Thankfully, the children escaped unharmed in the accident. The ambulance driver reportedly fled the scene following the collision, and authorities are currently attempting to locate him.
