Puri admin gears up for Rath Yatra with second preparatory meeting

Puri, April 17: The Puri district administration recently conducted its second preparatory meeting for the upcoming Rath Yatra festival. Discussions centered on crucial aspects such as crowd management, timely execution of rituals, and traffic control measures.
Various topics including crowd management, water supply, sanitation, and law enforcement were deliberated upon during the meeting.
Chaired by Puri district collector Siddharth Sankar Swain at the Circuit House, the meeting aimed to ensure meticulous arrangements for the festival scheduled on July 7. It was revealed during the session that 865 timber logs are required for constructing the three chariots, with 53 currently unused. Hence, the administration is in need of 812 additional timber logs.
Swain, overseeing the proceedings, emphasized the urgency of completing tasks as the Rath Yatra falls shortly after the General elections 2024.
The globally renowned Ratha Yatra is slated for July 7 this year, with police already initiating measures to guarantee devotees' safety and a seamless experience. The festival's rituals will kick off from May 10 with Akshay Tritya, culminating in the Rath Yatra on July 7, followed by Bahuda on July 15, and Sunabesha on July 17.
Key officials present at the meeting included additional collector (Revenue) Kailash Chandra Nayak, additional collector (Administration) Sarat Chandra Behera, additional collector (Protocol) Nilamadhab Bhoi, Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra, additional Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar Mishra, and Deputy Collector Priyadarshini Mallick.
