Violent clash erupts: Moneylender attacks family over unpaid interest

Bhubaneswar, April 11: Tensions escalated in Padmakesarpur as a moneylender and his associates brutally attacked a man and his daughter-in-law for failing to repay a loan's interest on time late Wednesday night.
Sanatan Das and his daughter-in-law Nirupama, residents of Padmakesarpur, are currently receiving medical treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Reportedly, Babula Das and five others confronted Sanatan during dinner, demanding repayment of overdue interest on a previous loan. A heated argument ensued, leading to Babula assaulting Sanatan with a sharp weapon. When Nirupama intervened, she too became a target of the attackers, leaving both victims severely injured and Nirupama in a critical condition.
In a shocking turn, Babula and his accomplices also launched bomb attacks on Sanatan's residence before fleeing the scene. Local villagers came to the rescue, rushing Sanatan and Nirupama to the hospital and alerting the authorities.
Police swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident. Additionally, to prevent further unrest, two police platoons have been deployed in the area.
