Joint effort leads to arrest of escaped under-trial prisoner in Bhawanipatna

Bhubaneswar, April 8: A collaborative effort between the Town police and Bhawanipatna Jail officials resulted in the arrest of one of the two under-trial prisoners who had escaped from Bhawanipatna jail by scaling the boundary wall on Sunday morning. The arrested individual was apprehended from his village.
The escapees were identified as Sikandar Jal from Nuapada district and Neelmani Majhi from Dharmagarh district. They had been incarcerated under the POCSO Act.
Following their escape, jail authorities initiated a manhunt, with the Town police registering a case in connection with the incident. The joint team conducted raids to locate the escapees, leading to the arrest of Sikandar Jal in his village. He was subsequently handed over to police custody.
However, Neelmani Majhi remains at large. This incident follows the escape of two under-trial prisoners charged with murder from Titlagarh sub-jail on March 11. A jail warder was suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with that incident.
The recurring escapes from jails in Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna highlight deficiencies in the security arrangements within these facilities.
