Bhubaneswar, April 6: Tragedy struck in Hinjili, Jajpur, and Boudh as a total of four individuals lost their lives, while 18 others sustained injuries in three distinct road accidents.
In Jajpur district, a father-son duo, Sainda Jena and Muna, from Sathiatagiri village, were returning home when a tipper collided with their bike at Baruhan Square under Sadar Police limits late Friday night. Sainda died on the spot, while Muna passed away shortly after being transported to Jajpur district headquarters hospital.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two individuals lost their lives, and 15 others sustained injuries after a pick-up van they were traveling in overturned. Seven of the injured were in critical condition and were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. The accident occurred when around 100 Danduas were en route to Khetri Berhampur in two pick-up vans. One van carrying 25 Danduas overturned at Sompur Square under Hinjili police limits in Ganjam district during the early hours of Saturday. The deceased were identified as Sanyasi Nayak and Deepak Nayak.
In another unfortunate event, a truck driver and his three sons suffered critical injuries when their pumpkin-laden truck was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Lunibahal under Puruna Cuttack police limits in Boudh district on National Highway No 57 on Friday night. The driver and his sons were promptly taken to Boudh district headquarters hospital.
It is suspected that drowsiness may have contributed to the accident involving the Danduas, while further investigations are underway into the other incidents.
