Four apprehended in connection to Pitapali overpass bridge robbery

Bhubaneswar, April 5: Commissionerate Police announced on Friday the successful detection of a robbery case involving the theft of Rs 11 lakh by individuals on motorcycles near the Pitapali overpass bridge on March 30. Four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Somanath Jena, also known as Soma (31), from Khordha; Dipti Ranjan Baliarsingh, also known as Deepak (31), from Khordha; Asish Kumar Das (25) from Nayagarh; and Smrutiranjan Sethi, also known as Bablu (25), from Khordha, according to police sources.
Law enforcement officials have recovered Rs 9.69 lakh in cash, three motorcycles, one scooter, and three mobile phones from the possession of the suspects.
The police investigation revealed that Udaya Bhanu Biswal from Shastrinagar, along with Lingaraj Nayak, Dinesh Kumar Sahoo, Santosh Behera, Akshaya Biswal, and Ardhendu Mohanty, had formed a syndicate for currency exchange.
On March 30, Biswal entrusted Sambhunath Sahoo and Dharmendra Reddy with Rs 11 lakh in high-denomination notes to exchange them for smaller denominations at the SBI Chhatrapur branch. Upon receiving the exchanged currency and coins in two handbags, Sahoo and Reddy, on their way back, were intercepted by four individuals on three motorcycles near the Pitapali overpass bridge at 5:30 PM. The perpetrators, known to them, threatened them and fled with the money bags, mobile phones, and the scooter.
