Newborn allegedly stolen from Odisha hospital rescued, woman detained

Balasore, April 5: A newborn baby boy, allegedly stolen from the district headquarters hospital in Balasore town, Odisha, was rescued hours later on Thursday.
Police located the infant in Durgadevi village early the following morning and have apprehended a woman for questioning in connection with the incident.
Reportedly, the eight-day-old son of Susanta Barik, from Baliapal area, was taken from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the state-run hospital around noon while undergoing treatment for jaundice. The parents, who had been protesting at the hospital, were assured by hospital authorities that the baby would be returned by 8 am on Friday.
The parents had filed a complaint with the local police, who reviewed CCTV footage from nearby cameras and conducted raids to locate the infant. He was ultimately found in Durgadevi village and returned to the hospital around 4 am, according to sources.
