Police apprehend fraudsters peddling false cash multiplication scheme

Bhadrak, March 5:  Two fraudsters were apprehended by police on Tuesday for allegedly swindling a man out of Rs 5 lakh, promising to quadruple the amount in return.

Narayan Sethi, the victim, claimed he received a call from an unknown number on February 16, offering him Rs 20 lakh in cash, primarily in Rs 100 and Rs 50 denominations, if he paid Rs 5 lakh in Rs 500 notes. The accused, Bulu Pati and Priyaranjan Nayak, convinced Sethi that the scheme was due to a shortage of Rs 500 notes in the market. Sethi agreed, and a date was set for the exchange at the Paradip Road Toll Gate.

Following the plan, Sethi handed over Rs 5 lakh in Rs 500 notes, and in return, received a box. However, upon opening it, he discovered it was filled with sand, with only a few Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes.

Sethi promptly reported the incident to the Bhadrak police station, leading to the arrest of the two suspects after an investigation.
