Odisha Government Transfers SPs in Nine Districts to Strengthen Law and Order

Bhubaneswar In a significant administrative reshuffle aimed at improving policing and maintaining law and order, the Odisha government has appointed new Superintendents of Police (SPs) in nine districts across the state. The transfer order, issued by the Home Department, involved several IPS and Odisha Police Service officers.

The move comes at a time when the state government has been placing greater emphasis on strengthening security, crime control and administrative efficiency. Officials said the reshuffle is intended to enhance policing standards and ensure better coordination in sensitive districts.

As per the new postings, Ganjam SP Suvendu Kumar Patra has been appointed as the new SP of Khurda district. Former Khurda SP Vivekanand Sharma has been transferred to the CID-Crime Branch in Cuttack. Kandhamal SP Harisha BC will now take charge as SP of Ganjam district.

In another important change, Rayagada SP Swathy S Kumar has been posted to the Special Task Force (STF) in Bhubaneswar. Raj Prasad, who was serving in the Special Branch, has been appointed the new SP of Rayagada. Ramendra Prasad, previously serving as Additional SP in Rayagada, has been given charge as the new SP of Kandhamal.

The reshuffle also brought changes in Bargarh, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Boudh and Deogarh districts. Prahalad Sahai Meena has been transferred from Bargarh to Gajapati as SP, while Rabindra Nath Satapathy from the STF has been posted as the new SP of Bargarh district.

Kashyap Parth Jagdish, who was serving as Additional SP in Bhadrak, has been appointed as SP of Nabarangpur district. Kishore Chandra Mund, currently serving in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate, has been posted as the SP of Deogarh district. Kuldeep Meena, who earlier served as ADC to the Governor, will now head Boudh district as SP.

Sources in the administration said the transfers were carried out after a review of the law and order situation in different districts. The government has recently directed district administrations and police officials to intensify vigilance against organised crime, illegal activities and public disturbances.

The reshuffle is being viewed as part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen governance and improve public confidence in the police system. Senior officials believe the new appointments will help improve operational efficiency and ensure faster response to law and order challenges across Odisha.
