16-point reform plan submitted for Lingaraj Temple
Bhubaneswar, April 28 : A comprehensive 16-point reform plan for the historic Lingaraj Temple was submitted to Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Monday, aiming to streamline rituals, enhance services, and strengthen overall temple administration.
The recommendations form part of the second interim report of the Satwa Lipi (Record of Rights) Committee, a two-member panel headed by Justice Dr. Durga Prasanna Choudhury and comprising noted Sanskrit scholar Prafulla Kumar Mishra. The committee has been entrusted with proposing measures for better governance of the shrine.
Among the key suggestions are ensuring discipline in daily rituals, renovation of the temple’s sanctum and kitchen, and upgrading the lighting system. The panel has also recommended specialised training programmes for sevayats to improve service quality for devotees. Additionally, it has stressed the need for transparent management of the hundi (donation box) and resolution of long-pending land-related disputes associated with the temple.
Receiving the report, the minister stated that the state government would thoroughly examine all recommendations before taking a final decision. He emphasised that any changes, particularly those related to rituals, would be implemented after careful review to ensure the interests of both sevayats and devotees are protected.
