Sevashram school headmaster arrested in Nabarangapur for molesting minor girl
Bhubaneswar, April 28: The headmaster of a Sevashram school in Tentulikhunti area of Nabarangapur district has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual misconduct of a Class VII student, police said.
The accused, Sukant Kumar Sarangi, had earlier been suspended by the district administration after the complaint surfaced. He was produced before a POCSO court, where his bail application was rejected, following which he was remanded to judicial custody.
According to reports, the incident came to light after the minor girl lodged a complaint at the Nabarangapur police station, alleging inappropriate behaviour by the headmaster. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case at Tentulikhunti Police Station under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and other applicable laws.
The alleged incident reportedly took place on the night of April 15. Her statement was also recorded in court under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Nabarangapur SDPO Krushna Chandra Bhatra confirmed that the accused has been sent to jail following rejection of his bail plea.
