Bhubaneswar, April 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported extreme heat conditions across Odisha, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place in the state on Thursday.
According to data recorded at 2:30 PM by the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda witnessed a scorching maximum temperature of 43.4°C, coupled with a very low relative humidity of 14 per cent, intensifying heatwave-like conditions.
Other parts of western Odisha also reeled under intense heat. Hirakud recorded 43.0°C with 29 per cent humidity, while Sambalpur registered 42.6°C and Rourkela touched 42.0°C. The state capital, Bhubaneswar, was not spared either, with the mercury rising to 41.8°C and humidity at 33 per cent.
In contrast, coastal regions experienced relatively lower temperatures due to moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal. Paradip recorded 31.6°C with high humidity of 76 per cent, while Gopalpur, Puri, and Balasore reported temperatures between 32°C and 33°C, making conditions humid and uncomfortable.
The IMD has advised residents, especially in interior districts, to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours and stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
